Dealing with Anniversaries

My Mom's birthday is this Saturday, July 16th. My parents (who were high school sweethearts) wedding anniversary is the following day; July 17th. It's a very meaningful time of year for our family.  Everyone who has been through a loss deals with anniversaries differently. Some like to be solemn. To take the time to reflect and mourn over the monumental loss that is inevitably felt even deeper on days like these. This will be our family's third birthday without my Mom. The wonderful World Wide Web has enabled further reach for help and knowledge. Cancer patients can certainly rely on their community for support during treatment, but its also very important to remember to keep in mind the other organizations country-wide that offer assistance as well. If you know someone going through cancer, check out any or all of the sites below and sign up on their behalf. I signed my Mom up for a...

5 Things To Do for Someone with Cancer

One of the worst parts about having a loved one with cancer is the inevitable feeling of helplessness that comes with the diagnosis. While so much of cancer treatment happens in the doctors office, I have seen first hand how important it is to have a strong support system outside of treatment. Every form of cancer treatment, whether its chemo, radiation, or surgery, is utterly exhausting for the patient. It can be very easy during this time to let spirits fall. Here is where friends and family can help. Below is a list of ways to help your loved one keep spirits...
